Viva la Lace!

The 80′s brought us the birth of Madonna. Do you remember Madonna back when she first started? I was a little girl. Did I just age myself? : ) Regardless, she was groundbreaking on many fronts.. sexuality, music and fashion. The latter is my inspiration for the first HOS spring fashion post. Madonna showed us that lace does not have to be worn on your wedding day only, but can be a staple in your wardrobe either as an accent or as the main piece. This spring, lace was all over the runways and is a must have addition to your wardrobe…as we say here at House of Squirrels.. Squirrel Girl street style done right!

We all have a little Madonna in us so why not be inspired by that amazing old school fashion from the days of ‘Like a Virgin’ and ‘Lucky Star?!’ She broke boundaries and rocked lace from fingerless gloves and headbands to her infamous bustiers.

HOS has chosen some of our favorite lace inspired pieces for spring to get you on your way to channeling your inner Madonna.

If you are new to HOS you must know that we are OBSESSED with Maje. Below is a lace top by Maje.

Color blocking is also big for spring so why not pair both together with this top by Diane Von Furstenburg?

Simple white lace top by Nanette Lepore that can be dressed up or down..

Currently, I am coveting this top by Isabel Marant and those shorts! How amaze is this lace camisole with shorts or skinny jeans and heels? I am obsessed with her shorts too…navy blue with stars on them.. who doesn’t like stars? I hear Madonna!

Simple dress with lace detail by Girl by Band of Outsiders…total Squirrel Girl brand too!

Hey Dr. Squirrel.. (aka my Mom).. this dress by Isabel Marant has my name all over it HINT! :)

Love searsucker anything.. how about these shorts with lace detail…umm yes please! By Rag & Bone.

The one and only, Madonna. Here is a flashback of her breaking out her lace and making a big fashion statement! All hail to The Queen…Madonna!

This post is dedicated to Christina, who always rocks her Squirrel Girl street style.. representing HOS on the streets of San Francisco with her fierce style and cutting edge pieces!
