We at House of Squirrels want to make sure we bring awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness month. Considering that our brand is a lifestyle brand geared towards women, Dr. Tandra Cadigan (Dr. Squirrel) a practicing Gynecologist in Newport Beach, CA. wrote a post on some preventative key facts and lifestyles that we all should incorporate in our daily lives. Remember, to make a difference in your ongoing health one has to make lifestyle changes that become habits. Each little bit counts don’t get deterred make the choice today. When it comes to breast health, 38% of breast cancers can be prevented with the following life styles;
Exercise: Walking may reduce our risk by 18%. Just do 75 minutes a week. Staying at a normal weight with a BMI of 18-24.9. Being overweight after 50 increases our risk of breast cancer by 30-60%.
Diet: Our diet should be a plant based full dark green leafy vegetables such as, kale, broccoli and spinach. Supplements to consider are resveratrol , Omega-3″s, and folic acid. There are studies that show these substances may block the development of breast cancer. Eat foods that have an abundance of antioxidants. Make sure that you do not have a Vitamin D deficiency, because a deficiency in Vitamin D has been associated with breast cancer risk. Ask your Doctor to check your Vitamin D levels when you have your blood checked next.
You can do it and these good habits are beneficial for our entire body so it is a win/win!!
