Cinco de Mayo Squirrel!

House of Squirrels has a handful of people that truly inspire us and our brand. One person particularly comes to mind who sent out a funny tweet this week leading up to Cinco de Mayo. Adam Rapport (Editor in Chief of Bon Appetite Magazine) tweeted: “When did Cinco de Mayo become a National Holiday in America?” Funny…he is King of one of the most successful food magazines in the world. Even Adam knows that Americans love Cinco de Mayo, but most likely for the food and not what it represents. Which bring us to this week’s post on how to make the perfect Margie (HOS jargon) and House of Squirrels’ famous guacamole.

Ever since I can remember my Dad (Captain Squirrel), loves to make a good Margie. Unfortunately, he cheated and used the pre-made margarita mix. Bad..Captain Squirrel! Here is how you make the perfect, healthy-ish, homemade Margie.

What you need:

3 Limes

Agave

Tequila

Tripple Sec

Martini Shaker

Ice

Squeeze three limes into the martini shaker. Put a splash of agave and triple sec in, along with two to three caps full of the tequila. Add a half cup of ice and shake for about 30 seconds. Pour into your glass and enjoy!! Simple, easy, and healthier for you than the pre-made mixes. I never get a hangover with my Margies because it’s all fresh with a splash of natural sugar (agave). Let me know how they turn out?!

If you only knew how much I live for chips and salsa and even better, guacamole. I can eat this yumminess every day! I believe I acquired this addiction from my Dad (Captain Squirrel). We can go through baskets of chips at a Mexican restaurant. Which means double the pilates for this Squirrel Girl that week. During the warmer months my guacamole is one of my most requested appetizers. Once again, this is no fuss and very simple to make… even for the novice cook.

What you need:

3 Avocados

1 Lime

Fleur de Sel

Cayenne Pepper

Take your bowl and peel three avocados into it. Squeeze your lime and sprinkle Fleur de Sel and cayenne pepper. Mix it all up and add further amounts of Fleur de Sel, cayenne pepper, and lime until you’ve reached your desired taste. Serve with salt free chips. This is a better option and healthier since the guacamole has enough flavor. Voila! HOS guacamole is done and ready to be served. This will serve two-three people. Double the recipe for more guests and so on.

Squirrel Tip: The reason my guacamole tastes so darn good is because of the Fleur de Sel. You can read about it and purchase it here.

House of Squirrels wishes everyone a fun and safe Cinco de Mayo!

Make sure to post comments and let us know how they turn out!
